Built From the Ground Up — Starting as a Top Agent

Scott Stafford didn't start his career behind a desk. He started in the field, as a top sales representative at Humana — earning the prestigious President's Club award in 2009, one of the company's highest honors for sales performance.

He continued to excel at UnitedHealthcare, where he was recognized as the top ICA agent in Colorado in 2010. That ground-floor experience — closing business, navigating carriers, and learning what actually works — still informs every decision Scott makes as President of Benefits Life today.

"When I was an agent, no FMO put me first. So I built one that would."
— Scott Stafford

Agents First. Always.

Scott walked in the same shoes as the agents he now supports. He knows what it feels like to close a case late at night, fight through a difficult carrier issue, or try to grow a book of business without the right backing.

That's why Benefits Life was built around a simple idea: put agents first. Every tool, every program, every decision — from Open Release to the 50% marketing co-op to free AskRamona AI — traces back to Scott's years in the field and the support he always wished he had.

Most FMOs spend their time promoting themselves. Scott built Benefits Life to do the opposite — putting agents' names, agents' businesses, and agents' success at the center of every decision. Because when his agents win, Benefits Life wins.

"We're only as strong as our agents.
Their success is our success."
— Scott Stafford

Leading a National FMO, 300+ Agents Strong

Today, Scott leads Benefits Life — a national FMO supporting 300+ agents across the country. Under his leadership, Benefits Life became UCHealth's named Medicare referral partner — listed on the health system's own pages — and grew its carrier shelf past 280, while keeping every agent promise, from Open Release to day-one renewals, published where anyone can check it.

Scott has witnessed and navigated significant transformations within the field, gaining unparalleled insights and expertise. He has been at the forefront of policy changes, technological advancements, and evolving agent and agency needs — making him an invaluable resource for understanding the complexities and future directions of Medicare, and how to grow and maintain a thriving business.

Shaping the Future of the Industry

Because of his expertise, Scott serves on the advisory boards for numerous organizations — including Healthcare GPS and Select Health. His voice helps shape the tools, partnerships, and strategies that Medicare agents rely on, far beyond the walls of Benefits Life.

It's a direct reflection of Scott's philosophy: the best way to grow the industry is to build for the agents who power it.

Red Rocks, Nuggets Games, and European Adventures

Scott lives in Lakewood, Colorado with his wife Katja — who also leads contracting at Benefits Life — and their two children, Leo (23) and Helena (21).

An avid live-music fan, you'll find Scott at Red Rocks Amphitheatre on a beautiful Colorado summer night — there's no better venue in the world. He's also a devoted Denver sports fan with season tickets to the Denver Nuggets.

When he's not at a show or a game, Scott loves traveling the world to discover new cultures, music, and food — with Europe holding a special place at the top of the list.
